Everything the component needs between leaving your supplier and entering the feeder: the belt that carries it, the film that seals it, the reel that holds it, and the packaging that protects it from static and moisture.

What makes the difference is not having one line or another: it's having the complete and compatible set. A carrier without a cover of the correct width is useless, and a reel whose diameter your feeder doesn't accept is also useless. When the material comes from the same warehouse, this compatibility issue is resolved before shipping, not on your line.
Cover Tape
It seals the carrier tape and keeps the component in its cavity. For carriers of 8 to 88 mm, It is available in two sealing families—heat sealing and pressure adhesive—and in 300 and 500 meter rolls. The parameter that determines its effectiveness is the peel strength, which EIA-481 limits to between 0.1 and 1.3 N for typical widths. See cover tape.
Carrier Tape
The belt with cavities that houses the component. Catalog of 8 to 88 mm wide and pitch from 4 to 56 mm, with more than 170 references in stock and cavities for BGA, QFN, QFP, SOIC, SSOP, TSOP, PLCC, and general SMD. SMT flanges
The covers that form the reel. Outer diameters of 7, 13 and 15 inches, Cubes of 4, 6, and 7, and piece widths from 4 to 88 mm. The diameter is limited by your feeder, not the amount of tape. See flanges.
ESD Bags
Three different products with the same name: antistatic, which only prevents generating load; shielding, which makes a Faraday cage; and moisture barrier, with an aluminum coating, which is what J-STD-033 requires for MSL-level components. Ordering the wrong one is the most common warehouse error. View ESD bags.

Desiccants
Silica gel and clay absorb moisture that enters the sealed package. The dosage is calculated by bag area and it is measured in units, not envelopes. See desiccants.
Humidity Indicators
The card indicates, before opening the package, whether the component is still usable or needs to be baked. The color change is irreversible, which is why it's useful. Available in different ranges and presentations, and according to specifications. View humidity indicators.
What does the consumables line include?
It's almost never ordered just one thing. The typical case combines three or four: a carrier and cover for the tape packaging, and a bag with desiccant and indicator for humidity control of the same batch.
And if you prefer not to manage the consumables, we also offer all of this as a service: taping of components and baking and drying, with the material already included.
How to choose together
The pieces are not independent, and making a mistake in one invalidates the others:
- The cover width is defined by the carrier, not the component.
- The flange width is defined by the carrier.; The diameter is defined by your feeder.
- The carrier cavity is defined by the componentLength, width and depth, with enough clearance so that it doesn't rotate and not so much that it gets stuck.
- The type of bag is defined by the MSL level of the component, and the dose of desiccant the area of that bag.
