Value-Added Services for Electronic Components
Between the time a component leaves its manufacturer and enters your production line, something is almost always missing: it comes in packaging that your feeder doesn't accept, with the terminal straight when the card requires it bent, with an excessive humidity level, or it simply needs to be counted and verified before it reaches the machine.
That's it. added valueThese are the operations that leave the component in the exact condition your process needs. They're not a standalone service; they're the bridge between your supplier and your line.
We make them in Guadalajara and Querétaro, In an ESD area with environmental control, each line operates under the applicable standard. The history of these lines includes over 9.6 million pieces processed across 183 part numbers, with a delivery compliance of 98%, for Tier-1 automotive and global EMS suppliers operating in Mexico.
The catalog at a glance
Thirteen operations grouped by the point in the process at which they enter:
| Stage of the process | Operations |
|---|---|
| Component preparation | Terminal cutting, preforming, baking and drying. |
| Packaging and repackaging | Tape wrapping on carrier tape, cover tape change, reel splicing, rewinding, vacuum sealing and MSL packaging. |
| Protection and masking | Kapton, conformal coating and its retirement. |
| Inspection and identification | Inspection and sorting, removal and replacement of labels, marking on cover tape. |
Almost all of them are combined with each other. The usual thing is not to request one: it's that the component comes in from one side and comes out ready, with three or four chained operations and a single interlocutor.
Component preparation
Terminal cutting
Cut the terminal to the insertion length required by your card. This is one of the most frequently used operations in our history. more than 816,000 pieces, on connectors, diodes, transformers and varistors.
When the cutting comes after the shaping, the reference is the fold and not the original end of the terminal: doing it the other way around leaves lengths that do not repeat.
Preform and lead forming
Terminal shaping to PCB geometry, under IPC J-STD-001. It has its own page: component preform.
Baking and drying
Recovery of the MSL level of moisture-sensitive components, in accordance with IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033, before taping or assembly. (See dedicated page.) baking and drying.
Packaging and repackaging
Wrapped in carrier tape
Transfer of the component to tape and reel according to EIA-481 standard, for automatic feeding. It has its own page: taping of components.
Change of cover tape
Replacement of the cover tape on a pre-formed reel. This service is requested when the original seal was damaged in transit, when the peel strength is not suitable for your feeder, or after opening the reel for inspection. It is performed without removing the component from its housing.
Splicing reels
Splicing two reels into one continuous reel. Avoids stopping the line to change reels and allows consolidating the balances of several partial reels into one usable reel.
Rewinding and untaping
Rewind a reel to the direction or diameter that your machine accepts, or remove the component from the tape when it needs to be returned to bulk or changed to a different packaging format.
Vacuum sealed and MSL packaged
Sealed packaging with moisture barrier for components with declared MSL level, with vacuum sealed When applicable. It goes with ESD bag, desiccant e humidity indicator inside, which is what allows us to know afterwards if the packaging fulfilled its function.
Protection and masking
Masked with Kapton
Placement of Kapton tape to protect areas that should not receive soldering, coating or heat: connectors, gold contacts, ventilation openings, test points. More than 217,000 pieces in the historical record, regarding connectors, PCBs and memory holders.
The value is not in sticking the tape: it's in making sure it's exactly where the drawing requires it, that it withstands the thermal profile, and that it comes off cleanly without leaving residue or lifting the coating.
Conformal coating: application and removal
Application of conformal coating on card, and also his retirement, which is the difficult part: you have to remove the coating without damaging the laminate, components, or traces, usually in order to to access the card and re-coat it afterwards.
It is one of the operations that arrive when another could not solve them.
Inspection, counting, and identification
Inspection and sorting
Verification piece by piece and separation of what does not comply. More than 133,000 pieces in the history, on connectors, PCBs and displays.
We combine automatic inspection with Eyve, our AI-powered vision system, and visual verification. The machine doesn't get tired, and the person sees what the machine isn't programmed to: that's why they both go.
It is the typical service for a suspect batch: material that arrived with doubt, that was in a storage incident, or that must be contained before being released to production.
Removal and replacement of labels
Remove the supplier's label and apply your own, or correct incorrect labeling, without damaging the packaging or the component. This also applies to reels, bags, and cards.
Marking and printing on cover tape
Print logo, part number or traceability data on the reel's cover tape, so that the identification travels with the material and not in a separate document.
When is it convenient to order it from abroad?
- It's an operation that's not your process. Setting up a station to untape a thousand pieces costs more than subcontracting it.
- You have a lot of mixture and a small amount of each ingredient. The real cost is not the part: it's the configuration change.
- It's containment. A suspicious batch must be inspected immediately, and the line cannot stop to do so.
- You need documented criteria by batch, not the operator's word.
- It's an emergency. and your ability is compromised.
We work the same way High mix with low volume We have sustained production runs, and we handle emergencies. The more than 9.6 million pieces in the historical record came from 183 part numbers and 320 orders: it's a mix, not a single repeated product.
Acceptance criteria
The electronics industry is highly regulated, and that works in the customer's favor: there's no need to negotiate what constitutes a job well done, it's already written down. Each operation is executed under the applicable standard. —IPC, JEDEC, EIA— and not under an internal criterion.
We have Certified personnel and internal IPC certifiers: the training and verification of the criteria are maintained in-house and do not depend on a third party.
The most frequent references in these lines are EIA-481 for tape and reel, IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033 for humidity and MSL levels, IPC J-STD-001 for terminal forming and IPC-A-610 for the visual acceptance criterion.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I request multiple operations in the same job?
This is normal. A typical case enters as a bulk component and leaves baked, shaped, taped, and packaged in a sealed ESD bag, with a single order number and a single contact person.
Is there a minimum order quantity?
We handle a short, high-mix run the same way we handle a sustained volume. What we evaluate is the operation, not the quantity.
Do they handle emergencies and restraints?
Yes. It's one of the most requested items: equipment that needs to be checked or reconditioned without stopping the line.
Do they work on assembled boards or only on loose components?
Both. Masking, conformal coating, inspection, and labeling are also done on PCBA.
What is included with the shipment?
The material identified by part number and quantity, and the acceptance criteria that were agreed upon before starting.
Where is it done?
In Guadalajara (Tlaquepaque, Jalisco) and Querétaro (El Colorado), in an ESD area with environmental control. Both plants provide national coverage and we can export.
Do you need any of these operations?
Tell us what material you have, its condition upon arrival, and the condition in which you need it. With that information, we define the sequence of operations and the acceptance criteria before moving a piece. Contact us.
